The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl containing multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, each with unique fears and motivations. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to others can activate something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea β€” fears that are unique to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around controlling the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have large blooms growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one standing could be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
